The moment Adam and Eve disobeyed God everything changed from “good” to “not so good”, and man was separated from God. Still, all was not lost. God had a plan to make everything good again, and He set it in motion. Let’s take a closer look at this story.
POINT #1 - IF GOD SAID IT, IT’S TRUE, SO BELIEVE IT!
In the beginning Adam and Eve lived with God in a beautiful garden. God gave them everything and everything was perfect. (Side note: Even though mosquitoes were in the garden, they weren’t biting Adam and Eve. Which is especially good because they were, well, naked. It’s okay to snicker here.)
God withheld from them only one thing. He commanded them not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or they would surely die. (Genesis 2:17) Sadly, Satan, God’s enemy, tricked Adam and Eve into disobeying Him by casting doubt on what God said. That doubt led to their disobedience. They ate the fruit and everything changed forever.
POINT #2 - WHEN YOUR EYES ARE OPEN YOU KNOW THE TRUTH
The Bible tells us that after they ate the fruit their eyes were opened, and they knew they were naked. What does that mean exactly? When the Bible says that someone’s eyes are open it means that they know the truth. Before Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they only knew what was good, because that’s all that existed. That’s all that God wanted them to know. Evil wasn’t in the world, so they didn’t know anything about it. But once they ate the fruit, they were able to see both good and bad. God’s warning had come true. (Genesis 2:17)
POINT #3 - SIN IS LIKE A STAIN
Sin brought more disobedience, sadness, sickness and even death. It was like a stain on a brand new shirt. It spoiled everything God made. Before Adam and Eve ate the fruit they were naked but unashamed. Sin changed that. Instantly, they felt uncomfortable and tried to cover themselves up. (Genesis 3:7) But only God can cover sin. (Ps. 32:1; Rom. 4:7)
POINT #4 - GOD MAKES EVERYTHING GOOD, EVEN BAD THINGS
As bad as things were, there was still hope. God’s plan to make everything right again was in full motion. First, He confronted His children on their sin. (Genesis 3:9-13) Then He did what every good father does, He punished them. (Genesis 3:16-24) But even in the midst of disciplining them, He showed them great mercy.
POINT #5 - ONLY GOD CAN COVER SIN
While God explained to them their punishment, He also told them of His great plan to one day destroy Satan and rescue them from their sin. (Genesis 3:16-24, 3:15) Then God covered their nakedness with garments of animal skins and clothed them (Genesis 3:21), a symbol of the day Jesus would die for everyone’s sins, covering them in His righteousness.
Even though God still sent Adam and Eve to live in a sinful world where life would be hard, He also gave them hope that the day would come when His people would once again live with Him in an unstained, perfect, good world. So, there it is! God makes everything GOOD! EVEN MOSQUITOES!
