Thanksgiving! It’s a much loved and celebrated holiday in America. It’s a day that friends and families come together for a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings - stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, casseroles galore, cornbread and every pie imaginable. Every family has their own favorite dishes and everyone adds to the feast.
But the heart of Thanksgiving is so much more than the dinner. It’s a day to reflect and give thanks. Many families go around the table giving each member the opportunity to share all of the things they are thankful for.
But God tells us in His Word to always give thanks, and most importantly, to give thanks to Him (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). For He is the reason we have life (John 10:10). He is the source of everything good and perfect, and our hope for eternity (James 1:17, 1John 3:2-3). God’s blessings are never ending. Once we begin to thank Him for everything He has done for us it is hard to stop. The reasons are endless. Jesus gave us His all, when He sacrificed His life for us on the cross (John 3:16).
So, remember, God wants us to thank Him every day, not just on Thanksgiving.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!
